Breadboard Plank Table

This table was constructed using carefully selected California Black walnut planks for the right design. The end pieces can be tricky because they run perpendicular to the plank pieces. The wood expands and contracts so mortises are used on the end for added strength and flexibility.  The width is 46’, length 96” and the the thickness is 1 ¾ “. The table was stained grey for esthetic purposes and finished with poly. The staining surprised me, in that it brought out some of the more colorful characteristics of the wood.

Claro walnut is very durable both from a hardness and rot perspective. The table found a home in Northern California.
